Questions? We’ve Got Answers
(And we actually mean it when we say “no stupid questions”)
Here’s the thing – if you’re wondering about massage continuing education, chances are everyone else is too. We’ve been teaching massage therapists for 30 years, and these are the real questions people ask (not the ones we think they should ask).
Whether you’re curious about a specific technique, worried about keeping up, or just want to know if this juice is worth the squeeze, we’ve got you covered.

The Big Picture
Let’s start with the basics
What makes your classes different from other CE?
Here’s the thing – most CE is either mind-numbing lectures about muscle attachments you’ll forget in a week, or “advanced” techniques that’ll wreck your body faster than a deep tissue marathon.
We focus on one simple question: Is the juice worth the squeeze? Every technique we teach has to pass the “will this help you stay in the game longer?” test. Plus, we actually make learning fun. Novel concept, right?
Do I need experience with these techniques before taking a class?
Nope! Everyone starts somewhere, and we design our classes for real humans, not massage robots who already know everything.
We start at the beginning and build from there. Been doing massage for 20 years? Great. Just got licensed last month? Also great. We meet you where you are.
Are your classes hands-on or online?
Depends on what you’re learning! Here’s the thing – different types of education work better in different formats.
Technique classes (cupping, percussion, body mechanics, etc.): Always hands-on and in-person. You can’t learn massage techniques through a screen any more than you can learn to ride a bike by reading about it.
Ethics, regulations, and continuing education requirements: Online works great for these. Why sit in a classroom to learn about HIPAA or human trafficking awareness when you can do it on your own schedule?
We use the right format for the right content.
What if I don’t like the technique after I learn it?
Good question! That’s exactly why we focus on giving you tools and principles instead of forcing you into someone else’s rigid routine.
Learn the foundation, then adapt it to YOUR style and YOUR clients. If percussion therapy isn’t your thing, you’ll still walk away with body mechanics knowledge that’ll save your hands.
Do you really answer questions, or is that just marketing speak?
We actually mean it. Been teaching for 30 years, and I still learn something new from every class. “There are no stupid questions” isn’t just something we say – it’s how we operate.
Don’t know something? Ask. Made a mistake? We’ll figure it out together. That’s what learning looks like.
About Our Classes
The nuts and bolts of how we do things
How big are your classes?
Usually 6-10 students max – that’s my sweet spot for giving individual attention and keeping things personal. No lecture halls with 50 people where you can’t see what’s happening and the instructor doesn’t know your name.
Here’s the thing though – if you’re one of those Last Minute Lucys who waits until renewal month to get your CEs (looking at you, New Jersey!), those classes can get packed. Sometimes 15-20 people when everyone’s racing to meet deadlines.
Plan ahead when you can and you’ll get a better learning experience. But hey, if life happens and you end up in a bigger renewal-month class, we still make sure everyone gets what they need.
What’s included when I register?
Depends on the type of class:
For hands-on technique classes:
✓ All the tools/supplies for that technique
✓ Written materials and reference guides
✓ Hands-on practice time with real feedback
✓ Client education materials you can actually use
For online courses (ethics, regulations, etc.):
✓ Access to course materials for 90 days
✓ Downloadable resources and certificates
✓ Support if you have questions
No extra fees for “kits” or materials. When we say it’s included, it’s included.
Are these techniques safe for my body?
Absolutely! That’s exactly why we do what we do. Everything we teach is evaluated through the “is this sustainable for your career?” lens.
We’re not interested in teaching you fancy tricks that’ll destroy your hands in five years. The goal is to help you work smarter, not harder, so you can stay in the game as long as you want to.
What if I’m not very technical or don’t remember anatomy well?
Perfect! We teach for real humans, not anatomy textbooks. I’m the opposite of a technical anatomy teacher – in most of my classes I make the joke “I’m pretty sure this is the arm” and point to my arm.
Yes, we’ll cover the technical stuff when it matters, but we explain everything in plain English. You don’t need to memorize every muscle attachment to be a good massage therapist. You need to know how to help people and protect your own body.
Fair warning to the anatomy buffs: You might stump me when you start talking about the omohyoid. But here’s the thing – that’s totally okay! We’ll figure it out together, or I’ll admit I don’t know and find out later.
Will I have to learn exact sequences or can I adapt to my style?
You can absolutely adapt to your style. Here’s the thing – I’ve never taken a class and then done EVERYTHING that instructor taught me. I take the one or two things that I liked best and try to integrate them.
That’s exactly how we teach. We give you the foundation and principles so you can pick what works for YOU and adapt it to your existing style. No trying to memorize someone else’s exact routine or completely change how you work.
How long do classes run? Do you stick to the schedule?
We aim for the posted times and usually hit them pretty closely. Here’s the thing – if people have great questions and we’re on a roll, we might run a few minutes over. If we cover everything efficiently, we might wrap up early.
It’s about the learning, not watching the clock, but we respect that you have lives outside of class.
If you have a hard stop at the posted end time, just let me know. I’ll make sure you get all the training you paid for and can leave exactly when you need to. No one has to stay late if they don’t want to or can’t.
Cost & Registration
Let’s talk money
Why do your classes cost more than online-only providers?
Good question! Here’s the thing – it depends on what you’re comparing.
For technique classes:
You can’t learn hands-on techniques through a screen. Our in-person classes include all materials, hands-on practice, individual feedback, and ongoing support. When you factor in what you’d spend on tools and supplies separately, plus the actual learning experience, the juice is definitely worth the squeeze.
For online courses (ethics, requirements, etc.):
Look, if you just want to check a box as cheaply as possible, there are plenty of options – PDFs of state laws with quiz answers highlighted, walls of text about ethics that’ll put you to sleep faster than counting sheep.
But if you actually want to learn something useful (and maybe even enjoy the process), our courses are interactive, bite-sized, and dare we say… actually fun and funny. Whether it’s required stuff like human trafficking awareness or practical skills like setting boundaries with clients, you’ll walk away understanding why it matters, not just having survived another boring requirement.
Your choice: cheap box-checking or engaging education that might actually stick.
We know massage therapists don’t make doctor money, so we price fairly for the value you get.
Do you offer payment plans or discounts?
It depends on who’s handling the registration for that particular class.
When I’m handling payments directly (you’ll see “thedoreenomethod.com” in the payment URL), I try to work with people – early bird discounts, group rates if you’re bringing colleagues, sometimes payment plans for multiple classes. We know massage therapists don’t make doctor money, so I do what I can to make valuable education accessible.
When the host school handles registration, they set the payment rules. Some are flexible, some aren’t.
Questions about payment options? Drop us a line at info@thedoreenomethod.com – we’ll let you know what’s possible for that specific class.
What’s your cancellation policy?
It depends on who’s handling the registration for that particular class.
When I’m handling payments directly (you’ll see “thedoreenomethod.com” in the payment URL):
– Cancel more than 2 weeks out: full refund
– Cancel 1-2 weeks out: credit toward future class
– Cancel less than a week out: we’ll work with you case by case
If there’s a family emergency or something similar, we’re not going to be jerks about it. We’re all human here.
When the host school handles registration, they set their own cancellation policies. These vary by location, so check the terms when you register.
Questions about a specific class? Email info@thedoreenomethod.com and we’ll clarify the policy for that event.
Are your classes approved for license renewal?
Yes! If I’m teaching in your state, the class is approved for license renewal in that state. I don’t teach anywhere unless I know the credits will count.
We’re NCBTMB approved and meet requirements for state licensing boards. Each class listing shows the CE hours and approval numbers you need for your renewal.
Got questions about specific state requirements? Just ask – we know the ins and outs of state regulations and make sure everything’s covered before we schedule classes.
What if a class gets cancelled?
If we have to cancel (weather, low enrollment, instructor emergency), you get full choice:
– Full refund, no questions asked
– Credit toward any future class
– Transfer to the next available date
We’ll give you as much notice as possible and make it right.
Scheduling & Logistics
The practical stuff you need to know
How often do you offer each type of class?
Technique classes (in-person):
Check our current schedule – we’re constantly adding new dates and locations based on demand and interest.
Online courses (ethics, requirements):
Available on-demand – start whenever you want. New courses added regularly.
Don’t see a technique class in your area or on a date that works? Drop us a line at info@thedoreenomethod.com. If there’s enough interest, we’ll add locations. We go where the students are!
Do you travel to different cities?
All over! We teach wherever there are massage therapists who want to learn. Currently hitting major cities across the US, but always adding new locations.
If your area isn’t on the schedule, let us know. We might be planning something, or if there’s enough interest, we’ll add it.
What should I bring to class?
You’ll get a specific list before class with exactly what to bring, but generally:
**Always bring:**
– Comfortable clothes you can move in (and sometimes be taped on – think tank tops and shorts for taping class)
– Your own sheets and lubricants/oils – work with what you’re used to
– Water and snacks – we’re working on tight budgets here, and most locations don’t provide food
**Feel free to bring:**
– Your own tools if you have them (cupping sets, percussion devices, etc.)
– Notebook if you like taking notes
**We provide:**
– Course-specific tools and materials (included in class fee)
– Reference materials and handouts
– My sparkling personality
The pre-class email will have all the details for your specific course, so you’ll know exactly what to pack.
What if I need to leave early or arrive late?
Talk to us beforehand and we’ll make it work as much as possible. Sometimes life doesn’t cooperate with class schedules.
Here’s the thing though – to get CE credits, you need to be there for the actual learning and hands-on practice:
– More than 30 minutes late: You’ve missed too much foundational stuff to get credit
– Need to leave more than an hour early: You won’t be able to complete the required hands-on work
If you need to leave less than an hour early, we can prioritize your hands-on practice time so you get credit. But if your schedule conflict is bigger than that, you’re welcome to attend for the learning, you just won’t be able to get the CE certificate.
Communication is key – just let us know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly.
Do you offer private training for groups?
Absolutely! Here’s how it works:
Local groups (within 2 hours of Atlantic City, NJ): Minimum 4 people, we can do single-day training at your location.
Groups requiring travel/hotel: Minimum 2-day commitment with an average of 6 people per day. We’ll work with you to structure two classes that make sense for your team.
Pricing: Generally $150 per person per 8-hour class (discount from our regular rate since you’re providing the venue). Larger groups may qualify for additional discounts. We’ll customize content to your specific needs – could be two different techniques, or the same technique for different shifts.
Want to explore options for your team? Email info@thedoreenomethod.com with your location and group size.
What happens if I miss something during class?
No worries! We repeat important stuff, check in regularly, and encourage questions throughout.
Plus, you get ongoing support after class:
✓ PDF of the class presentation (delivered through our online platform)
✓ Five weeks of follow-up emails with tips and reminders
✓ Email access for questions anytime – if something doesn’t make sense when you try it back at work, just reach out
We’re here to help you succeed, not just get through the class.
